Business Focused Internet Systems - Systems and methods that make business sense

Photo of Parents signing up daughter for swin class via the internet Schools, training centers, swimming pools, workshops, and training conferences need a cost-effective way to put their class schedule on the Web and let their students register for courses online. The system must not only make it easy for customers to find the courses they want, but easy for administrators to post the class schedule.

Solution

We created our Time2Signup system to address both business problems. We use new technology (called AJAX) to make it easy for customers to find the classes they want. With AJAX all the dropdown boxes are “live.” For example, when a customer picks a training session, the items in the Locations dropdown box change to reflect only those locations where the school teaches classes during that session. Similarly, when the customer selects a location, the items in the Courses dropdown box change to reflect only those courses that are available for the selected session and at the selected location. Live dropdown boxes mean that customers see only relevant information and don’t need to wade through long lists. We use a technique we call “smart defaults” to make it easy for administrators to put there class schedule online. You enter blocks of classes within a session. You just specify the Subject, Age Group and Format for each class. The system figures out smart default values for the class price, maximum number of students, start date, end date, start time, duration of the class, end time, and will assign the class a uniform name. These values will be correct almost all the time, but you can override defaults to cope with exceptions. In addition, to make scheduling still easier, you can also clone whole sessions or parts of old sessions into a new session. The system maintains database lists that describe your company: the courses your offer, the facilities and locations at which you teach, and the formats in which you teach classes, the age groups for which you offer classes, and the instructors who teach at your company. The system uses this information to generate the dropdown lists that appear on menus and to figure out the smart default values.
